I created my file when I was in my second year of teaching. I was fresh, motivated, and I had began touching lives in a way that warranted feedback. Students drew me pictures and wrote me letters, colleagues began writing me thank-you notes. I started collecting tangible bits of the memories of my career that were in need of safekeeping. I purchased a simple white three-ring binder and added a photo drawn for me by my sister when she was in her early stages of becoming an artist. What I have learned about my feel-good file is that not only will it be full of love from your students, but it will also be full of reminders that teaching is part of who you are and the people who love you will recognize that, too. Their additions will pop up as the pages turn as well.
As I always tell my students at the beginning of the week - Happy Monday.
