elcome to Self Care Sunday! Let's talk about lunch. For many teachers, lunch is often an afterthought. Either you don't get to it or it gets cold while you're trying to get to it. The school day flies by so quickly many of us opt to skip lunch altogether instead of making it a priority. Snarky teachers know that self care is essential and feeding yourself well is no exception, even if it's in the middle of your busy day. In all of my years of teaching, this method was the most successful in getting me to eat healthy, balanced meals in the middle of my day.
Say hello to the Bento Box. Many of you have probably heard of it, but maybe didn't take the time to look into exactly how to use it. It's been a lifesaver for me in past years where a 30 minute lunch felt more like 5.
To get started, I originally purchased four things. EasyLunchboxes 3-Compartment Bento Lunch Box Containers - Set of 4 (I like the brights!), EasyLunchboxes Insulated Cooler Bag, 24 Pack of Silicon Baking Cups, and EasyLunchboxes Mini Containers. You can decide exactly which four of these things are essential for you, but I liked the flexibility of having all of them at my fingertips for whatever concoctions I could create. (As a side note, these links take you to my Amazon affiliate account. If you like what you see here and you'd like to see more of it, please support the blog by making your purchases from my links! It helps me keep the site going!)
Once you have your "lunch tools" - you're ready to start getting creative. There are so many sites with thousands of suggestions for how to use your Bento. The easiest thing for me was to always create a lunch out of whatever I made for dinner the night before. Tacos? No problem - plenty of compartments for toppings. Pasta and salad? There's room for that, too! The possibilities are endless with the Bento.
For my pinners, I created a board with thousands of ideas from different websites right here.
Not into pinning? No problem! Here are 5 of my favorites:
I hope this post inspired you to get creative with your lunches! Eating well is essential to having the energy to keep up with your kiddos. (Everyone knows if we could box their energy and sell it, we'd be billionaires.) How will you use the Bento this school year? Share your thoughts with me in the comments below.
